Major flooding in regional Queensland has exposed a 1,200-kilometre blind spot in weather radar systems.

Quilpie in the state’s central region has suffered five days of floods after experiencing 300 millimetres of rain, which has isolated residents and cut off farmers from livestock.

Officials say the town is not covered by the Bureau of Meteorology’s weather radars, thus making it harder to predict flood levels and prepare for damage.
